Callaghan Valley Training Centre Bursaries

Two bursaries of $4000 each will be offered annually to junior BC athletes attending the Callaghan Valley Training Centre. One bursary recognizes Gary Murdoch’s contribution to cross country skiing (female athlete) and the other recognizes Dave Battison’s contribution to cross country skiing (male athlete).

The intent of this initiative is to both encourage post-secondary athletes who aspire to international excellence to pursue the high performance stream and recognize coaches who have made a significant contribution to high performance cross country skiing in British Columbia. The new program will be in effect for the 2015-16 ski season.

Gary Murdoch (Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club, Smithers) was a club founder and Jackrabbit coach who later established a junior racing program and coached his club/team to be the top ranked club at the National Junior Championships in 1993, 1994 and 1995.  For more information click here - http://crosscountrybc.ca/sites/default/files/documents/Gary%20Murdoch.pdf

In addition Dave was a committed NCCP Facilitator and mentor to developing coaches for which he was recognized nationally by the Coaching Association of Canada with a ‘NCCP National Coaching – Coach Developer Award’.  For more information click here - http://crosscountrybc.ca/sites/default/files/documents/Dave%20Battison.pdf
