KELOWNA
The heart of the Okanagan Valley, Kelowna is centrally located within 1.5 hours of seven ski areas. High altitude training at nearby at Silver Star Mountain/Sovereign Lake. Kelowna has two post-secondary institutions, University of British Columbia and Okanagan College. There is a sport partnership in place. The ski club is Telemark, and the year-round head coach is Adam Elliot. The program administrator is Brent Hobbs. Kelowna boasts a team physiotherapist. There are 7 skiers in this performance program, ages 18-20, all of which are provincial team members.
VANCOUVER
The largest metropolitan area in B.C., Vancouver has a shorter season in the city, late and guaranteed early snow are available at nearby Whistler Olympic Park. Vancouver has many post-secondary institutions, with the main schools being University of British Columbia and Capilano University. The ski club is Hollyburn, and the year-round coach is Jake Weaver. Vancouver boasts team transportation, a psychologist, a physiologist and a physiotherapist. There are 9 skiers in the performance program, ages 16-20. 9 skiers are provincial team members.
PRINCE GEORGE
The “Northern Capital” of B.C., Prince George offers easy access between school and the trails, plus full tuition scholarships, and a $1000 annual scholarship. Prince George has two schools, the University of Northern British Columbia and College of New Caledonia There is a sport partnership in place. The ski club is Caledonia, and the year-round coach is Graeme Moore. The program administrator is Jen Nesset. There are 7 skiers in the performance program, ages 15-23. 1 skier is a provincial team member. Prince George also has a sport academy for secondary school students, Canadian Sport School.
ROSSLAND
Nestled in the mountains, Rossland offers a long ski season and sport partnership allowing athletes to meet both academic and athletic goals. Rossland has one post-secondary institution, Selkirk College. The ski club is Black Jack, and the year-round coach is Dave Wood. The program administrator is Ann Quarterman. Rossland boasts team transportation, a psychologist, a physiologist, and a physiotherapist. There are 10 skiers in the performance program, ages 15-24. 2 skiers are provincial team members. Rossland also has a sport academy for secondary school students, The Seven Summits Centre for Learning.
OTHER
Can't find what you would like to study at any of the above programs? There are also programs in Vernon and Salmon Arm that involve the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club, Larch Hills Nordic Ski Society and Okanagan College. The coach in Vernon is Darren Derochie, and in Salmon Arm is Abbi May. Between the two programs there are 10 skiers in the performance program, many of which are provincial team members. Vernon also has a Snow Sports Academy for secondary school students, which is a partnership between SD #22, and the Sovereign Lake Nordic Club.
