CCBC Hosts Visiting Team from Sweden – 2nd Instalment

Cross Country BC is currently hosting a junior team from the Gällivare Skidgymnasium, which is one of five national ski academies in Sweden.  The team is visiting as part of an exchange program that includes Cross Country BC sending a team to Sweden later this winter.  Below is an update on their visit in Canada.

DAY 5 (Sept 14th, 2024)
After breakfast we met the kids that also were in Revelstoke for a Teck Regional Fall Dryland Camp and had a training session with them. We led the warm up and started it with some mobility training followed by different technique exercises. After the warm up we (from Sweden) did 5x5 intervals. Directly after the training we went to a market in the village before we had lunch. In the afternoon we returned to the camp where we had a scavenger hunt. It was really fun to learn to know the other athletes a bit more and do the different challenges together, like building a human pyramid.

DAY 6 (Sept 15th, 2024)
We started the morning early and went to Frisbee Ridge for a run. It a lot easier and less steep run than the run at Rodger’s Pass earlier in the week. The weather was perfect for a run and when we came closer to the top we got some nice views and could see the blue sky and the sun. After the run we really quickly (like world record fast) took a shower, checked out from the apartment and started the travel to Whistler. On the way to Whistler (via Duffy Lake and Highway 99) we saw our first bear. It was super cool and cute and it felt like we had seen everything we wanted to see after that.

DAY 7 (Sept 16th, 2024)
It was our first rest day in Canada and we got to be tourists in Whistler.  We went in to the village in the morning with the local bus and shopped for some souvenirs. The best shopping of the day was some excellent cookies! Afterwards we went to the Superfly Zipline. It was a super cool experience with amazing weather and views.  There were four different ziplines, and our two favorites was the second one (that was the fastest) and the last one. The last one was fun because you could go side by side with a friend and hold hands or feet. Then we ended the day with dinner at a nice restaurant. At the restaurant we got really cool Swedish ski t-shirts and there was also a live DJ so we got to dance. It was really fun to experience Canada as tourists.
