NOTICE: BC Games Society sets new training requirements for coaches

The BC Games Society has been reviewing their Core Sport Policy which provides them with a framework for evaluating and selecting sports for inclusion in future BC Winter and BC Summer Games.  I am pleased to report that the sport of cross country skiing meets the necessary requirements and will continue to be a part of the Games going forward.

This new policy also introduces a number of changes aimed at improving consistency, fairness, and long-term athlete development alignment. One of those changes is that our coaches attending the Games will require the following training going forward:

NCCP Comp-Int Advanced (T2T) certification (Cross Country Skiing) for Zone Head Coaches
NCCP Comp-Int Advanced (T2T) "trained" for Zone Assistant Coaches

Previously both Zone Head Coaches and Zone Assistant Coaches required NCCP Comp-Int (L2T) certification.

For your information the T2T Coach Pathway can be found HERE.  It outlines the tasks needed in order for a coach to achieve either "trained" or "certified" status.

To assist you Cross Country BC will be actively looking for funding opportunities in addition to the usual grants available through viaSport (in particular the Northern Grant for our coaches in Zones 7 & 8 and the PacificSport Columbia Basin Grant for our coaches in Zone 1).

Note that the next BC Winter Games will be held in Kamloops from March 2-5, 2028.  The new minimum coach training requirements will be in effect at those Games.  However, Cross Country BC already has a significant number of coaches who have completed their NCCP T2T workshops …and that gives us a good head start to meeting this new standard!

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me.

Kindest regards,
