Hello Team Canada
With the Youth Olympic Games closing ceremony in the books, the first race in Slovenia at the World Junior and U23 Championships kicking off in 10 hours, and only 2 days until we gather in Canmore for the World Cup, I wanted to send an email to wish everyone good luck, and to say thank you to everyone that makes Team Canada what it is; a shared passion for our sport, our people, and our country.
Having the opportunity to wear the maple leaf in competition is a tremendous honour. Athletes, you get to share this honour your teammates, as well as with those that have worn it before you, and those that will wear it for the years to come. You get to share this experience with your coaches, technicians, integrated support teams and organizational staff. You share this with your local and provincial communities. You share this with our amazing sponsors, partners, officials, race organizers and volunteers. And perhaps most importantly, you get to share this with your families, friends and loved ones.
I’d like to share a few 2024 Team Canada stats, in no particular order:
48 – athletes that will wear the Canadian race suit this year
24 – total number of ski clubs represented by Team Canada athletes
15 – total number of additional Daily Training Environments that support these athletes (Training Centers, Divisions, NCAA, Nordiq Canada)
30 – total accredited staff supporting YOG, World Junior/U23s, P4 World Cup
100+ - coaches, IST, organizational staff, board and volunteers that support our athletes and programs (this one is really much larger than 100)
56 – ticket requests for Minneapolis World Cup for family and friends
450 – volunteers and contractors needed to successfully staff and operate the Alberta World Cup by the Alberta World Cup Society
Although these numbers do not come close to represent everyone that contributes to our team, these numbers do highlight how big the reach is across our country and provides a glimpse of what being part of Team Canada represents. It truly takes a village to raise our champions. I am always so appreciative of the community that we have, and feel so privileged to be part of Team Canada with all of you. Thank you to everyone for your hard work, your passion, and for your immeasurable contributions to the success of our team and our community. Lastly, I know I did not capture everyone on this email that deserves recognition. Please pass this on to the members of your teams and communities so that everyone can share in our collective pursuits and accomplishments.
Go Team Canda!
