‘Build the North’ - Outreach for Cross Country Ski Clubs in Northern BC

 FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

 January 21, 2021

Thanks to AltaGas and Nordiq Canada, Cross Country BC is pleased to launch ‘Build The North’.  This project will see coach outreach and support this winter to our many clubs in northern BC, from Williams Lake, to Fort St John, to Burns Lake, and everywhere between and beyond.  The North played a very prominent role in the history and development of cross country skiing in the province and many clubs are now looking forward to an injection of new energy and knowledge.

The primary goal of the project is to improve club Skill Development Programs (SDP) through helping current and aspiring coaches to improve their coaching skills, and in a couple cases to help new clubs start their very first SDP program.  Additionally, junior racing programs and Ski S’Kool programs stand to benefit.  The club visitations and online sessions will include technique and info sessions with club coaches and leaders, demos of effective SDP sessions for the various stages of development, general Q&A sessions on all things skiing, and much more.

The primary coach for the project is Graeme Moore, who is centrally based out of Prince George.  Graeme has a long history with cross country skiing; he is L2C certified, an active NCCP Learning Facilitator, and a former club head coach.  He has two young children, both of whom are in the Jackrabbit program.  Says Graeme: “I am excited, inspired, and hopeful that this program will make a difference!”

The project is already underway and we are very excited for the impact it will have on our northern clubs.  Thank you to AltaGas and Nordiq Canada for making it possible, and thanks as always to Kal Tire, sponsor of the SDP program in our province.
