Call for Nominations – Cross Country BC Board of Directors

Please accept this email as an official Call for Nominations for qualified persons to sit as the Chair (1) and Directors (3) on Cross Country BC’s (CCBC) Board Directors.  Nominations for CCBC’s Board of Directors are for two-year terms commencing May 11th, 2019.   As per CCBC’s Bylaws, the Nominations Committee is responsible for implementing the selection process for Nominees to the Board seeking candidates that will ensure the CCBC Board meets the following:

a) They will endeavor to ensure that the following competencies are represented among nominees and existing board members:

  • Sport expertise;
  • Financial/accounting expertise;
  • Legal expertise;
  • Fundraising expertise;
  • Strategic planning expertise; and
  • Business leadership/management expertise.

b) They will endeavor to ensure that there is a minimum of two male and two female representatives on the Board at all times.

c) They will endeavor to ensure a regional balance in the composition of the Board by recruiting candidates from different regions of the province.

d) They will communicate directly with each candidate to discuss the roles, responsibilities and expectations of a Director.

Athlete Representative: Junior and Senior athletes:

The Nominations Committee is also seeking nominations from athletes for an Athlete Representative;  this individual will be appointed by the Board for a one year term (in accordance with Bylaw Section 4.11).  Currently, Katie Weaver is in this newly created position. 

The appointed Athlete Representative will participate as a Board member (approximately 5 meetings a year – usually by teleconference, will participate with the Cross Country Ski de Fond Canada Athlete Rep on the “Athlete Board”, and will be able to bring forward information from the athlete community to the CCBC Board and represent the Board to the athlete community.

Key requirements:

  • Athlete must be 18 years old and;
  • Athlete must be eligible to be a member of BC ski team and have the intention to compete in the upcoming competition year.

Nomination Process:

  • CCBC athletes – Junior and older – may nominate themselves or an athlete for the Athlete Representative position.   The regular nomination process as noted below applies except the deadline for nominations is extended to April 30th, 2019.  Those athletes nominated should provide a short paragraph as to why they are interested in the position.
  • The Board’s nomination committee will review the list of nominations including those self-nominating and make a recommendation to the Board at the first meeting following the AGM for appointment to the Board of the Athlete Representative.

The athlete representative is a one year term, but past athlete representatives can apply to be considered again.

As per CCBC’s Bylaws, the deadline for submission of nominations is April 10th, 2019 (April 30th, 2019 for Athlete Rep); thirty (30) days prior to the CCBC’s May 11th, 2019 Annual General Meeting.
