2007 Legacy Team off to PyeongChang (Strathcona Nordic Ski Club News)

A group of cross country and biathlon officials from Mount Washington, Vancouver Island will be off to Pyeongchang in March to support the 2018 edition of the Paralympic Winter Games. The group were all involved in organising the two IPC Nordic Skiing World Cup finals events held at Mount Washington in 2007 and 2009, and went on to be involved in varying degrees with the 2010 and 2014 Winter Games, world cups, and world championships events around the world. They are a living breathing part of the legacy of hosting the Games in 2010 and represent not only Mount Washington and Vancouver Island at this high level but Canada as a whole. The team includes:

  • Len Apedaile (Strathcona Nordic Ski Club): International Paralympic Committee (IPC) / World Para Nordic Ski Federation (WPNS) - Race Director and head of technical control and officiating.
  • Joe Bajan (Vancouver Island Biathlon Club): IPC Assistant Technical Delegate / Jury Member – Biathlon
  • Francoise Ducret (Vancouver Island Biathlon Club): IPC International Technical Official - responsible for equipment control and commercial marking inspections
  • Marc Lyster (Mount Washington Nordic Manager): International Expert - groomer - responsible for course preparation and grooming
  • Tom Kennedy: (Mt Washington): International Expert - groomer - responsible for course preparation and grooming

Marc and Tom headed over in late February at the conclusion of the Olympic Winter Games to help prepare the field of play. Len and the rest of the team will head over in early March.

The Paralympic Winter Games in PyeongChang run from March 9 to 18, and the cross country and biathlon events will encompass almost half of the medal events at the Games.  Watch for them on TV and cheer on not only our athletes http://www.cccski.com/National-Ski-Team/Athlete-Information.aspx but also our officials who work behind the scenes to deliver this historic event.
