Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club leads the pack in Teck Kootenay Cup contest

The Black Jack Cross Country Ski Club of Rossland is leading the other cross country ski clubs in the region following the third race in the series.  Black Jack (270 points) has an edge over the Kimberley Nordic Club (215), the Fernie Nordic Ski Club (165) and the Nelson Nordic Ski Club (147), but there are still four races to go and any of the four leading clubs could end up the overall champion. The next Teck Kootenay Cup weekend is scheduled for January 22-23 in Kimberley.

On other fronts:

  • In the Northern region the Bulkley Valley Cross Country Ski Club of Smithers (150 points) has a comfortable lead over the Nechako Nordics (46 points) following the first race in that series.  With four more races to go, the competition for the title could be a good one.  The next Teck Northern Cup races will be held in 100 Mile House on January 22nd and Burns Lake on January 23rd.
  • At the coast the Hollyburn Cross Country Ski Club (North Vancouver) dominated the first race, accumulating 221 points compared to 78 points for their closest challenger, the Sea to Sky Nordic Ski Club (Squamish).  The second race in the series was cancelled due to an extreme abundance of snow, however there are two more races coming up at Mt Washington (Vancouver Island) in February.
  • In the Okanagan the Larch Hills Nordic Society of Salmon Arm (208 points) grabbed the lead from the Sovereign Nordic Club of Vernon (171 points) during the first Teck Okanagan Cup race of the season. The Revelstoke Nordic Ski Club (133 points) follows in third place with a solid lead over the Telemark Nordic Club of Kelowna, which has 88 points. The next Teck Okanagan Cup will be held in Penticton in March.
