Building the Next Generation of Officials in BC

We have wonderful news to share with our clubs.  Cross Country BC was awarded a significant one-time grant to help create a new generation of volunteer officials within BC!

Many of you know our races are only getting bigger each year and new officials are much needed.  (Did you know we had over 12,000 race starts in BC last winter, the most ever?)

For a limited time, this grant will allow us to deliver Level 1 & 2 officials courses FREE OF CHARGE across BC, as well as PAY clubs an honorarium to host the courses (to reduce any barriers and maximize enrolment).

Ten clubs in BC have already jumped on this opportunity and scheduled a course (THANK YOU), but we still have funding for a few more – first come, first served!

Upcoming courses include:

May 6 Level 1 Dawson Creek
Sept 30 Level 1 Williams Lake
Oct 7    Level 1 Kimberley
Oct 14 Level 1 Vernon
Oct 14  Level 1 Vancouver
Oct 21 Level 1 Courtenay
Oct 22 Level 1 Rossland
Oct 29-30 Level 2 Vancouver
Nov 4-5     Level 2 Williams Lake
Nov 18-19 Level 2 Penticton

To find out more or to schedule a course for your club/region, please contact programs@crosscountrybc.ca.

Thanks in advance for attending a course, or rallying your troops and hosting a course.  Little kids and big kids need you!

Thank you to viaSport BC and the Province of British Columbia for their support, via the Rally Together Sport Volunteer Grant.

Officials Level 1:

A 1-day course that provides an overview of what a cross country ski competition is all about.  The focus is on the duties of minor officials for both ‘Olympic’ style (interval start, mass start, pursuit start, individual sprint, team sprint and relay) and ‘Loppet’ style (mass participation) competitions.

Officials Level 2

A 2-day course that prepares officials for leadership roles on a competition committee at club, provincial and most national level races, including the Teck BC Cup Series, BC Winter Games and loppets. The course covers all official race formats, rules and regulations, rule interpretation, electronic timing, all aspects of the results system and volunteer management.
