Teck Regional Snow Camp (Coast VI): A Great Way to Spend the Holiday!
COURTENAY, B.C. – What better way to enjoy the time between Christmas and New Year than a Teck Regional Snow Camp, Island style! Sixty skiers, including Jackrabbits, Track Attack racers, Junior racers and a keen group of Masters racers, all enjoyed three great, fun filled days of skill development, camp camaraderie and the traditional camp relay and skiathlon events. The Islanders were joined by a group of eager Mainlanders who ventured over for the fun, making it a truly Regional Camp.
Skill development sessions were planned in both mixed groups, where younger athletes were able to benefit from skiing with and watching older athletes, and age/skill groups, where competitive camaraderie became the focus. Uphill climbing and downhill cornering was the focus of the main skills sessions, with time enough to enjoy the fantastic snow conditions over the course of the camp with some easy zone 1 volume skiing.
Camp highlights were, once again, the team sprint relay where smallest and biggest, and so on down the line, are paired up, making for a high energy, high fun event and the ever popular modified skiathlon event with 45 skiers, across all age groups, heading in and out of the stadium for 4 alternating laps of classic, skate, classic and skate skiing on a variety of short loops through the sprint trails above the stadium.
A hearty thank you goes out to all the coaches, helpers and volunteers who made the camp great, as well as Mount Washington Alpine Resort and Teck Resources Limited.
