Nordic Club Praises Kamloops Blazer Sports Society for Supporting Youth Cross Country Skiing »

January 31, 2014  (Sun Peaks, B.C.) The Sun Peaks Nordic Club is acknowledging the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society - Sports Legacy Fund this week for a $17,300 grant toward cross country youth development programmes in the Sun Peaks and area community.

The Sun Peaks Nordic Club application proposed an innovative strategy that provided seed money for youth sized cross country ski equipment.  The skis, poles and boots will be rented by parents for a nominal fee enabling children to utilise different sized equipment during their growth.  The rental revenue will provide a self-sustaining financial fund to reinvest into new equipment in the years ahead.

Paul Sicotte, Sun Peaks Nordic Club President, expresses sincere appreciation to the Foundation on behalf of the club and community.  “We thank the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society for sharing our passion and vision for youth cross country skiing in our community.   In the last two years since inception, the club has co-hosted races, coach clinics, camps, and started a Jackrabbit programme for ages between 5 and 13.  It grew from 14 to 24 children in its first year.”

“This is important to our young community,” says Barb Kupferschmidt Linder, Sun Peaks Education Society President.  “While Sun Peaks is a tourist destination, there is a large and growing population of working families that have a need for healthy active opportunities for their children.  The Sports Legacy Fund grant provides hard to find youth ski equipment for the school, club, and community.  Enabling youth in sport is one of the most noble mandates of the Kamloops Blazers Sports Society.”
