Put it on your radar - Canada plans to host the 2023 FIS World Junior/U23 Nordic Ski Championships!

Plans are underway to bring the FIS World Junior/U23 Nordic Ski Championships to Canada in January 2023.  The 10-day event will bring the best 16 to 23-year-old cross country skiers, as well as athletes in Nordic Combined and Ski Jumping, from 50 countries to compete at Whistler Olympic Park.

The Local Organizing Committee (LOC) composed of representatives from the three sports, the venue, local clubs, PSO and NSO has been hard at work for several months preparing the groundwork for a bid to host the event.

“We are having meetings and putting out feelers and the response from the communities in the Sea to Sky corridor so far is very positive,” said LOC chair Norm Laube.  “Hosting these championships at the 2010 Olympic legacy venue would reinvigorate that spirit and passion.  I encourage coaches and clubs across Canada to pencil 2023 into their calendar, because this will be a fantastic opportunity for our young athletes.”

If the bid is successful, the event will be the biggest undertaking at Whistler Olympic Park since the 2010 Olympics.

“It is a fantastic development opportunity for young Canadian athletes in these three disciplines to compete against an international field in their home country,” Laube said.  “I encourage coaches to keep their athletes aware of this chance and encourage them to make competing in this event their goal.”
