31 December 2013 (Whistler, BC) The Whistler Nordics will host the 2nd Coast Cup Race in the Teck Coast Cup Regional Series at Whistler Olympic Park on Saturday, January 18th, 2014. January's race will be Classic Technique and is a fun, inclusive event for cross-country skiers if all ages; courses and distances have been chosen for each category and there are courses for standing and sitting adaptive skiers.
After a break of a few years Spud Valley Nordic Association (the local Pemberton club) returns to host the 3rd Coast Cup race on January 19th, 2014. The race will be Free Technique Team Sprints; each team will comprise two skiers who will complete the course 3 times in the relay.
To make this a weekend event athletes, families, supporters and volunteers are encouraged to stay locally and enjoy a special themed dinner event at Whistler Olympic Park after races finish on the Saturday. Tickets are priced at $16 thanks to a Whistler Cooks donation and are available for purchase at the time of registration.
The Club Aggregate Awards continue which generate healthy competition amongst the Coast Region Clubs! Each club will compete for the Teck Coast Cup Series 'banner' by accumulating the most points over the five events in the series. Last year the banner was won by Strathcona Nordic Ski Club.
