BC Ski Team in Sweden - 2026 B-Tour
Friday March 27
This morning, most of the group woke up planning to do an optional ski up Dundret Mountain. After skiing around for nearly an hour and finding no groomed trail that led to the top, we decided to hike straight up the very steep mountain, carrying our skis on our shoulders. It was a long climb, but it was completely worth it! Our trek up Dundret was rewarded with a gorgeous view, strong winds, sunny weather, and a very exciting ski down. We all agreed that the descent was one of the most exhilarating of our lives.
After our morning ski, everyone had a good lunch at the school cafeteria. Next, the whole team went to watch the World Cup ski cross qualifier being hosted at the local Gällivare ski hill. Sadly, the head-to-head races will be taking place after we leave for Stockholm. After taking some group photos with the Canadian athletes, we went back to make dinner and prepare for our own version of ski cross.
That evening, we had a very fun and exciting race. It was an 800m long individual start skate race with tight turns, bumps, jumps, dark sections, and candles lining the sides. There weren’t many Swedish athletes in the older categories; the boys’ race was fully Canadian, and the girls’ was about half and half, but it was nice to see the big turnout of young kids. For many of us, this was our final race of the season, and it was the perfect, fun season finisher! We all very much enjoyed our last night in Gällivare.
